Depotentiating Conscious Sets
Stephen Lankton, LCSW, DAHB, FASCH
Description:
Depotentiating Conscious Sets is a major aspect of Erickson’s approach to both induction and psychotherapy. It was fundamental to his approach to therapy in hypnosis He wrote, “Depotentiating the limitation of the individual’s usual patterns of awareness thus open up the possibility that new combinations of associations and mental skill may be evolved for creative problem solving within the individual.” And, Rossi added, at a later date, that Erickson actions for, “depotentiating consciousness are so subtle and pervasive in the manner with which they are interwoven with the actual process of induction and suggestion that they are usually unrecognized even when studying a written transcript of his words.” This workshop, presented by one of Erickson’s personally trained students, will explore and explain why this is necessary and how it is accomplished.
Objectives:
1) Participants will be able to define “cure” in Ericksonian terms.
2) Participants will be able to conduct 3 type of destabilization of consciousness in treatment.
3) Participants will be able to to construct and use conscious-unconscious dissociation language.
4) Participants will be able to use at least 3 indirection techniques to retrieve experiential resources.
