Fundamentals: Level 1 Training in Hypnosis
June 10-11, 2022 and June 18, 2022
This three-day workshop is for all practitioners who wish to begin ASCH Approved education in Clinical Hypnosis. It is designed for health care participants who are new to hypnosis. Come join us on the journey!

**This MN Society of Clinical Hypnosis conference is designed to meet continuing education requirements for many clinical disciplines. 21.5 CEHs are anticipated. We have applied for CE credits with the following boards:
- American Society of Clinical Hypnosis – Approved
- MN Board of Marriage & Family Therapy
- MN Board of Psychology – Approved
Professionals in other related clinical disciplines, as well as those working outside of Minnesota can submit CEH certificates to their corresponding boards for independent approval. Actual CEH amounts will be dependent upon your specific licensure board and attendance.
**The Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis will make a final decision regarding whether or not in-person portions of training will remain in person depending upon CDC and state guidelines closer to the date of the conference.
Description
Clinical hypnosis is a powerful therapeutic that draws upon the skills, adaptability, and creativity of clinicians. has been used in medical, dental, and psychological treatment for hundreds of years. Clinical hypnosis incorporates understanding of current concepts of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neuroplasticity with effective patient relationship and communication skills.
Eligibility & Target Audience*
Health care professionals with a Doctoral Degree in Medicine, Dentistry, or Psychology; persons holding a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Counseling, or Clinical or Counseling Psychology who are licensed by the state/province in which they practice; Registered Nurses with advanced sub-specialty training and certification or a Master’s Degree; or students actively enrolled in a graduate program leading to a degree in any of the foregoing or a four-year bachelor’s degree that ends in certification in such a field. Master’s level, licensed health professionals (e.g., Occupational and Physical Therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists, et. al.) are also welcome and encouraged to attend.

Faculty
Victoria Beck, MSW, LICSW
Victoria Beck is a Clinical Social Worker currently in private practice in Grand Rapids, MN. She has 23 years of direct practice experience including 14 years at a local Rule 29 MH Clinic where she oversaw development of one of the first certified DBT programs in Northern MN. She provides individual, family and group therapy as well as being a BOSW and LPCC certified clinical supervisor. She also engages in consultation with other providers in private practice in the area. She has been a member of MSCH since 2014 and enjoys attending the annual conference as well as the other opportunities for education that MSCH offers. She utilizes clinical hypnosis in her work with individuals currently addressing a variety of complaints including managing mood related symptoms, chronic pain, ego strengthening and habit disorders.
Cheryl Bemel, PhD – Faculty/ Small Group Facilitator
Cheryl Bemel, PhD is a licensed psychologist. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota’s School of Dentistry, training dentists and dental students in psychophysiological management of pain techniques with patients. Dr. Bemel has proudly deployed with the Minnesota Behavioral Health Medical Reserve Corps to provide Psychological First Aid at national disaster sites. Dr. Bemel is a former provider of trauma services within Minneapolis Police Department’s Child Development Policing Project. She has also provided care as a Crisis Psychologist in hospital emergency rooms. Currently, she is a provider within Allina Health Medical Clinics, as well as in her own independent practice. Dr. Bemel is an Approved Consultant with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. Dr. Bemel received the Courage Kenny Rehab Institute’s Jacobsen Award for her innovative design in safety measures, increasing protective head gear/helmet appeal for children with disabilities. Suzanne Candell, PhD, LP- Faculty
Suzanne Candell, PhD, LP, is a Clinical Health Psychologist in private practice in Minneapolis, MN and has been providing training and consultation in clinical hypnosis to other health care professionals for over 10 years. She is an ASCH-approved Consultant in Clinical Hypnosis and a long-time member of MSCH. In 2011, Suzanne was awarded the Kohen Outstanding Clinician Award from MSCH for outstanding leadership in clinical practice, teaching, and utilization of therapeutic hypnosis. Suzanne specializes in treating complex chronic physical health problems, with a particular expertise in addressing the complicating effects of psychological trauma on physical health. Alfred Clavel, MD – Faculty
Alfred Clavel serves as the Medical Director of the Hennepin County Pain Clinic and Research Center and directs the Acute Pain Consultative Service, located at the Hennepin County Medical Center. In addition to his medical training, Dr. Clavel completed a four-year residency in Neurology at the University of Minnesota and a fellowship in Clinical Electrophysiology and Clinical Pain Medicine. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Clavel is a co-owner and Medical Director of MN Head & Neck Pain Clinic. He currently sees patients in their Plymouth and St. Paul clinic locations. He also practices at Fairview Palliative and Pain Clinic.
Kevin Harrington PhD – Faculty
Kevin Harrington Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist currently working in private practice in Bloomington Minnesota. Dr. Harrington utilizes hypnosis in his work with children, adolescent, adults and families. Dr. Harrington has been teaching hypnosis to healthcare providers nationally and internationally for over 25 years. In 2009, he was awarded the Kohen Outstanding Clinician Award from MSCH for outstanding leadership in clinical practice, teaching, and utilization of therapeutic hypnosis. His private practice includes providing parenting seminars, training and supervision of healthcare providers, consultation to schools and psychotherapy for families, children, adolescents and adults.
Delle Jacobs, LICSW, LMFT – Faculty/ Small Group Facilitator
Delle Jacobs, LICSW, LMFT, has a psychotherapy and consulting practice in St. Paul, MN, focusing on mind-body applications of clinical hypnosis. The best part of her practice is when she is “being hypnotic.” On the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) Education and Training Committee (CHET), Delle teaches all levels of training. She is an ASCH Approved Consultant and a Past President of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis (MSCH). Advanced level teaching includes Ernest Rossi’s Ideodynamic Hand Techniques, Hypnosis in the Art and Science of Psychotherapy, etc.
In 2017, Delle received the Wark Outstanding Teacher Award from MSCH. ASCH has granted her two awards, the first of which, in 2021, was an Award of Merit for her role in updating the Level I Standard’s of Training. In 2022, she received a Presidential Award for work in designing a virtual format for Level’s I and II trainings, leading to a quality online learning platform.
Kristen Kampsula, LMFT, LADC
Kris Kampsula is a Mental Health Professional at Hazelden Betty Ford and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor and works with individuals, couples and families. She is trained in EMDR and Clinical Hypnosis. She specializes in treating trauma and addiction, and relational dysfunction.
Heather Klein, PhD, LP – Faculty/ Small Group Facilitator
Heather Klein is a licensed psychologist at the Parkdale Therapy Group. She is trained in narrative therapy and hypnosis and incorporates solution-focused, mindfulness, hypnosis, and creative/playful approaches into the therapeutic process. Heather works with individuals experiencing a variety of life transitions/changes, anxiety, and depression. She uses the client’s expertise, metaphors, and collaboration to build the foundation of therapy. Heather also provides supervision to post-doctoral level psychologists and conducts workshops for mental health providers and members of the community. She is currently on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis (MSCH). She has served as the editor of Images. She is currently serving as president elect as well as the Small Group Coordinator for MSCH’s annual conference. Heather is an Approved Consultant through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH).
Mary Landwehr, MD – Small Group Facilitator
Dr. Mary Landwehr is Family Medicine Physician in independent private practice in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin.
“I am classically trained in western Family Medicine however I am interested in alternative approaches to health and illness. My additional training includes training in clinical hypnosis, aromathearpy and medical acupuncture to further my understanding of what causes illness and how to re-balance the human body and its entire being to a healthy mind and body state.

Jack S. Rusinoff, MA, LP, ATSA Fellow – Faculty
Jack Rusinoff is a Masters Level Licensed Psychologist who previously served as Vice Chair of the Board of Psychology and is in his second term on the Board. Mr. Rusinoff earned his BA in Psychology and Sociology from State University of New York in Potsdam, NY and a Masters degree in Counseling & Student Personnel Psychology from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. Mr. Rusinoff is a Sex Offense Treatment Professional at Minnesota Department of Corrections and an ATSA (Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers) Fellow. He has been a faculty member of the MSCH annual Introductory Workshop since 1993. In 2009, Jack was awarded the Wark Outstanding Teacher Award from MSCH for excellence in teaching, advising, program innovation and development, and education leadership.
Ann Schissel, PhD – Small Group Facilitator
Anne Schissel is a Doctoral-level Licensed Psychologist. She is currently in private practice at CenterLife Counseling and teaches as an Assistant Professor at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in the Counseling Psychology Doctorate Program. Anne also serves on the Board of Directors as MSCH secretary.
Carol Siegel, PhD – Small Group Facilitator
Dr. Siegel is a licensed psychologist in Minneapolis and sees parents and children in her private practice. Carol’s primary clinical focus is parenting and issues encountered by parents with complex histories. This may include depression, stress, adoption, foster care, trauma, abuse or neglect. Carol is also a consultant to clinicians and home-visiting programs around Minnesota. She teaches in the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Certificate Program at the University of Minnesota and is endorsed by the Minnesota Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Association as an Infant Mental Health Clinical Mentor. Carol is also serves on the Board of Directors as current co-President MSCH
Jennifer Stoos, MA, MDiv, LMFT- Faculty/ Small Group Facilitator
Jennifer Stoos is a member of MSCH, and ASCH, and an Approved Consultant. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, MN Board and American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists Approved Supervisor, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) Approved Consultant, and current co-President of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis (MSCH). In 2019 Jennifer was the recipient of the Kohen Outstanding Clinician Award from MSCH for outstanding leadership in clinical practice, teaching, and utilization of therapeutic hypnosis. She has been using hypnosis with couples and individuals since 2007. Jennifer has a private practice at Rekindle Counseling.
Mark B. Weisberg, PhD, ABPP – Faculty
Mark Weisberg is a Board-Certified Clinical Health Psychologist in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is Adjunct Community Faculty, Academic Health Center, University of Minnesota. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology. Additionally, he is a past president of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis and past vice-president of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
He has worked at the Minnesota Head and Neck Pain Clinic in St Paul MN for over 30 years and maintains an independent practice in Minneapolis MN.
Dr. Weisberg has been involved in clinical practice and consultation in integrative mind-body medicine and treatment of chronic physical conditions for over 30 years and teaches nationally and internationally on these topics. He has many publications in the medical, dental, and psychological scientific literature. He is the co-author of Trust Your Gut: Get Lasting Healing from IBS and Other Chronic Digestive Problems Without Drugs (Conari Press), a consumer book on integrative treatment of digestive disorders.
Ben Wolf, LICSW
Ben Wolf is a licensed clinical social worker currently working in private practice in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is a current member and past president of MSCH. He has been utilizing hypnosis in his work with adolescents, adults, and couples for over 10 years. Mr Wolf specializes in treating anxiety, depression, complex trauma and eating disorders.
